Nutrition Counseling Services

Inward Nutrition is a safe space to be seen and heard as you share your concerns about food and your body on a one-on-one, ongoing basis with a Registered Dietitian. With more than 15 years of experience, I provide nutrition counseling using current, evidence-based approaches. We will take a holistic perspective that includes your physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual health. We’ll work together in collaboration with your other healthcare providers. Nutrition counseling can be intimidating and vulnerable, and I consider it an honor to take part in the process with you.

Here’s how the process works…

Complete learning modules in between nutrition visits.

  • The foundation of good nutrition is eating enough, period. I’ll send you short excerpts from books by Dr. Gaudiani, Christy Harrison, and Rachel Hartley to learn more.

  • Complete a worksheet through the app to take a good hard look at the food rules that influence your behavior.

  • Based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, you’ll home in on your top six values so that you can act based on what matters to you. We’ll touch on your values throughout treatment to make sure your goals are in line with your values.

  • Learn about a non-numbers based way to build a complete and balanced meal. Use this framework to plan nine versatile meals that fit your lifestyle.

  • Read two research-based articles and complete a journaling exercise on how diet culture and weight stigma has impacted you.

  • Listen to a thorough podcast and explore a website to understand the foundation of these concepts. Later, we’ll dive into the components of intuitive eating in more detail.

  • Read a summary of these practices and then complete a meditation.

  • Topics include: holistic wellness and determinants of health, hunger & fullness scale, real-time self monitoring, unconditional permission to eat, challenging food rules

FAQs

What’s the cost?

The initial visit is $165 and follow-up visits cost $97 each. In 2024, I’ll be offering packages.

Do you take insurance?

Inward Nutrition does not bill your medical insurance directly, but can provide a superbill upon request for you to submit to insurance. A superbill is a receipt of the healthcare services you’ve already received and paid for with specific information listed, such as CPT (procedure codes) and ICD-10 (diagnosis codes). You can submit the superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services. Please follow these steps if you’re interested in this process.

Inward Nutrition accepts most HSA cards.

Who do you see in your practice?

Inward Nutrition welcomes people of all backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, races, sizes, and physical abilities. Please let me know if you are in need of any sort of accommodation for your nutrition counseling appointments.

I currently see clients who are over the age of 18. Feel free to contact me for a list of providers who specialize in children and adolescents.

What is your availability for appointments?

I’m currently available during the day (before 3 pm) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you are unable to flex your schedule to make appointments during this time frame on a regular basis (2-4 times per month), Inward Nutrition can provide a referral list for other dietitians in the area who may have wider availability.

Will you help me lose weight?

I follow an anti-diet approach, so the focus of nutrition counseling is not on intentional weight loss or methods like calorie counting, measuring food, or restricting. If you regularly binge or yo-yo diet, the goal(s) may be: to eat in an adequate and consistent way, reconnect with your body’s cues, and regularly allow yourself satisfying and enjoyable foods. This may result in weight loss, and it may not…that is up to your genetics!

I am also trained in body image healing, which is shifting how we think, feel, and perceive our bodies. Most people don’t know it’s possible to feel less awful about their body even if we aren’t working on weight loss.

Anything else I should know before I schedule?

You’ll be asked to enter in your credit card information when you book your initial session. It won’t be charged until after the session.

Good Faith Estimate Notice:

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non- emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
